One of my first songs that became popular was my cover of The Siren Call (Into The Unknown) from Frozen II.
The tune really stuck out to me when I saw it at the movies with my kid, and I thought I could make it sound good on flute, but I had never done any cover songs before and was totally stumped at the licensing process to make it legit.
After leaving it in the Too Hard Basket for several months, I finally asked my distributor about licencing, and it turns out they handle all of that so it couldn’t be easier.
I popped it up on YouTube and promptly forgot about it. Two weeks later I happened to check my stats, and YouTube’s algorithm suddenly picked it up, pulling in 10k views over 3 days. It’s still doing ok on YouTube, and Spotify doesn’t hate it, so I’m pretty happy about that.

I’ll let you in on a secret – I’ve since remastered it, and the new version will be out next month.
